Students at St. Augustine Nyamonye girls secondary school in Bondo sub-county have been left counting loses after fire gutted down a 61-student capacity dormitory on Tuesday evening.
According to Deputy principal Dorothy Ogola, the fire was discovered by some of the students at around 6.45 pm when the rest of the pupils had just finished taking their dinner.
She noted that despite the alarm raised by the students, no one managed to put off the fire as it was spreading so fast.
The Deputy Principal divulged that students' belongings worth millions of shillings were reduced to ashes after they were overwhelmed with the fire that engulfed the entire building.
Madam Ogola noted that the cause of the fire is yet to be established, adding that it might have come as a result of an electric fault.
She further noted that officers from the Ministry of Education will visit the school today to assess the damage, and help establish the real cause of the fire.
