Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday threw his audience in Mombasa into fits of laughter after a hearty narration about fake professionals.
While addressing the 1st Inter-Professional Summit at Shanzu, he said fake professionals are to blame for a crawling economy.
“I remember I had a friend who used to indicate before his name that he was an engineer. Someone from the Board of Engineers wrote him a note, 'Sir, send us your papers so that we can regularize your position as an engineer'," he said, leaving the crowd in stitches.
His narration stemmed from what he termed as fake news by the Kenyan media in regard to deaths reported in Turkana and Baringo counties where ravaging drought has taken centre stage.
The DP dismissed the reports of the deaths as "fake news" citing that from where he stands, the deaths cannot be linked to drought.
"Nobody has died from the drought. From where I sit, there is nothing like that. Ignore the fake news by the media. We have summoned the chiefs who came up with the story," charged Ruto.
He, however, noted that they need to do more as a government to mitigate the extremes of such eventualities.
"I agree that we need to put together long term measures on how to improve our agricultural productivity and food security. This is the area we have to improve," stated Ruto.
