Preaching in Public Service Vehicles (PSV) is common in Nairobi and too much on the routes to Kibera.
Some men and women of God take their gospel to city matatus as they strive to spread the word of God.
Boarding various city matatus especially during morning hours you will meet these preachers who in many cases offer words of encouragement.
These preachers mostly prefer preaching in matatus plying slum areas.
While majority of matatu preachers do their work as per their calling, there are others who do annoying things that questioning their mission and intent.
Here are annoying things some matatu preachers do.
1. Forcing people to give 'sadaka'
Some preachers who preach in city matatus forcefully demand for 'sadaka' from commuters.
After preaching they will use certain language that forcefully ask people to give something.
While giving or offering is a personal affair, some matatu preachers use owful language on people who fail to give 'sadaka'.
Recently, a preacher received a thorough beating after he insulted a commuter who had declined to give sadaka in a matatu along Jogoo road in Nairobi.
2. Faking sermons
Some preachers who preach in matatus are conmen who use the word of God to deceive and get money from people.
Some of these preachers are clueless on what they preach and end up giving wrong or fake sermons.
They will pretend to have a mastery of the Bible when in real sense they are quacks.
3. Faking miracles
Some preachers who give sermons in city matatus sometimes fake miracles.
They sometimes move with people they claim to have healed.
When you interrogate these cases you will find that they are fake people who use the word of God to deceive and earn money.
4. Using abusive/vulgar language
Some city matatu preachers use abusive language when they fail to get 'sadaka'.
They will hurl insults at the matatu driver and conductor cursing them for carrying 'broke' people.
According to John Amadi, a Pentecostal Assemblies Church of God (PAG) pastor in Kibera, cases of people faking as preachers to get money are on the rise.
He says there is need for the government to crackdown on fake pastors who are using the word of God to deceive Kenyans.
It is Biblically wrong for people to use the word of God to deceive or gain material things.
