Jowie is the main suspect in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani who was reportedly murdered inside her house in Nairobi's Kilimani Estate in September.

During the hearing of his bail application on October 30, Justice James Wakiaga termed him a flight risk and is to be held pending the conclusion of the ongoing probe on his possible involvement in the murder.

But through his lawyers on Tuesday, Jowie has decried torture and mistreatment in the hands of the police at the Kamiti prison.

The defence team is as well alleging that the latter who is nursing a gunshot wound has been denied treatment as was directed by Judge James Wakiaga, apart from painkillers.

“My client has not been given the specialised treatment at KNH (Kenyatta National Hospital). We are also told that he was transferred to Kamiti and there are issues that have been raised by Jowi in regards to torture,” the team told the court on Tuesday, according to Citizen Digital.

The prosecution could neither confirm nor refute the claims, with Chief Prosecutor Cathrine Mwaniki noting that her office would look into the allegations.

Justice Wakiaga directed that Jowie should be allowed to be admitted at the health facility for surgery on Tuesday, failure to which he should be released to seek private health services.
