Though MPs were not given a chance to speak at the burial of benga maestro Joseph Kamaru, save for area MP Ruth Mwaniki, nominated MP Maina Kamanda ensured he is given a time with the microphone.
When he stood to speak, he said he was not going to speak of Kamaru’s thrilling songs or life on earth as his goodness is so much to be exhausted.
Kamanda’s moment was for delivering a political message in one of the biggest Mt Kenya audiences to congregate since the politics of handshake started.
The veteran politician, who is known to have links to the infamous Mt Kenya mafia, said the Kikuyu nation had only one spokesperson.
“I want to say it clearly here that we as Mt Kenya we have only one spokesperson and it is you, your Excellency. Even if you retire, we will still follow you. So those other people moving around saying this and that should forget it, Kikuyus are not people to be sold by some people,” Kamanda fired.
Obviously, the message was being directed at Deputy President William Ruto’s allies in the Mt Kenya region who have been calling for the region to back Ruto in 2022.
The ex-Starehe MP, who was floored by greenhorn politician Charles Njagua alias Jaguar, said the region is yet to decide on 2022.
“And Your Excellency the common people are supporting the handshake, it is only those who want seats that are opposing the handshake. We support you and our people will decide on what to do when that time comes (2022),” Kamanda said.
An ally of the DP said Kamanda ‘sneaked’ into the program to try and discredit Ruto.
“All he wanted to say is that he is against Ruto. We know him and his group of Mt Kenya wazee’s, but he must know 2022 will be about class and generational politics. Let him continue playing old tricks in a new generation, we shall defeat their barbaric mentality,” the MP, who preferred anonymity, said.
