Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu on Saturday mocked Deputy President William Ruto for cancelling his planned prayer rally at Murang'a in which over 150 MPs were expected.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro on Thursday announced cancellation of the rally, claiming that Tanga Tanga team had gotten a warning from metrological department over impending rains in the region.
“We have been cautioned by the Meteorological Department that we shall receive ice rain and it will not be advisable to hold the prayer rally. There is no politics behind the indefinite cancellation of the event and we shall keep the public posted on when to hold the rally,” Mr Nyoro told the Nation by phone.
Mt Kenya MPs were divided over the rally, with a team identifying itself as Kieleweke accusing Dr Ruto of sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta's development agenda through early campaigns.
Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi warned that the rally could not be allowed to go ahead, insisting that it was a plot to install Dr Ruto as Mt Kenya kingpin despite the presence of Uhuru.
And Mr Ngunjiri, another staunch supporter of Uhuru, on Saturday mocked DP's team, asking whether it hand rained in Murang'a as earlier warned by the metrological department.
"BTW ... does anyone know whether Muranga - specifically KENOL - is raining? (asking for a friend)," asked Ngunjiri, in a sarcastic message targeting DP Ruto.
Reports emerged on Friday that President Uhuru Kenyatta personally advised against the rally, forcing Deputy President William Ruto's team to cancel it on the pretext of poor weather.
It was the second time Ruto was postponing the prayer rally. In April, the rally was pushed ahead to reportedly allow DP Ruto to attend Jonathan Moi's funeral.
