According to Khalwale, Raila, who has contested for the top seat four times without success, should consider quitting active politics as it was clear that the former Prime Minister will never garner enough votes to take him to the house on the hill.

In a tweet on Saturday, the Ford-Kenya deputy party leader reported that he has been in a campaign to urge residents in populous Western Kenya not to 'waste' their votes on Raila since he can't win.

He also claimed that Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who is Raila's deputy in ODM, also believes his boss can never emerge victorious in the race to State House.

"Today in Matungu constituency, accompanied by Governor Oparanya I advised our people that in 2022 they must not waste time on Raila Odinga. And Oparanya agreed saying that Raila has run out of luck for the presidency!" he posted.

Khalwale was apparently reacting to remarks by a section of ODM leaders who on Monday hinted that their party leader could vie again in the next general election.

"According to our records, Raila Odinga was our candidate in 2017. It was me who issued him with a certificate. I have not issued that certificate to any other person. This means he is the ODM candidate unless otherwise stated," party chairman John Mbadi was quoted by Standard speaking during the burial of Migori Senator Ben Okello Oluoch.
