In mid-June, Hivisasa covered a story highlighting the plight of a school in Kisii that was temporarily closed due to lack of latrines.  Nyamerako Primary School was closed following an order from county health officials who cited poor sanitation.

The officials noted that students were at risk of contracting diseases such as Cholera.  Following the closure, the 500 pupils were forced to stay at home with no hope of resuming learning any time soon.

According to the headteacher, Albert Nyamete , the school has few pit latrines, but they are being shared with a secondary school around. The secondary school was opened about three years ago but lacks sufficient facilities.

The story was published by Dennis Chacha, a Hivisasa writer based in Kisii. The writer interviewed Nyamete, who stated that his efforts to get funding from the Constituency Development Fund were futile.

Since the school had already been closed, with no hope of receiving CDF funding, Nyameta called on well-wishers to step and help build latrines.

After the story was published, the writer shared it on several platforms. The plight of the school got the attention of Eng Robert Pavel Oimeke who offered to fund the school to construct toilets for pupils to resume learning.

Oimeke is the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director-General. The construction has already commenced after Oimeke donated Sh50, 000 towards the course.
