Babu Owino was definitely one of the most influential university students during his era as a students' leader at the University of Nairobi (UoN).
He got re-elected by the students one term after another. His influence attracted the attention of major media houses in the country to the extent of being called for interviews on major media houses.
His fight for the comrades' rights through demonstrations and other means placed UoN at the centre of focus.
But after his exit, the power of comrades almost died. Somebody had to stand up and defend the comrades' right.
In the recent months, Moi University has risen up to take centre stage on social and mainstream media. From the demonstrations against the lecturers' strike to the demonstration against delayed HELB disbursement, it is evident that Moi University is creating the defender of the comrades.
All this thanks to the one man; Moses Tisa, the Secretary General of Moi University Students Organisation (MUSO).
His journey began with a landslide victory during his election into MUSO. What followed was a period of revolution for the students at the Kesses-based Institution.
Shortly after his election, lecturers went on strike. Tisa together with his colleagues stood up for the comrades and staged a demonstration to demand the strike to be called off.
He is actually the only university students' leader who was present during the negotiations that saw the lecturers call off their strike.
Recently he was back on the streets to demand disbursement of the delayed HELB. Shortly after that, he came back home and led another team in fighting for a reduction of the high transport cost imposed on the students. All these in less than a year in his office.
It is evident that he is rising up to become the new defender of the comrades' rights.
