Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged Governor Mike Sonko to urgently improve services at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
Owino says that Pumwani hospital needs serious transformation in order to guarantee proper healthcare to city mothers.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, the MP said that ugly incidents happening at the hospital have caused fear among city women who depend on it for maternity services.
“Governor Sonko should urgently intervene and transform the Pumwani hospital in terms of infrastructure, equipment and personnel to curb this ugly incidents,” he said.
The MP at the same time called for investigations into the alleged discovery of eleven bodies of infants at the hospital on Monday.
He said that the incident was shocking and those who failed to do their duty leading to the deaths must be arrested and taken to court.
“I learnt of the incident with shock and relevant agencies should investigate and take appropriate action,” he said.
Investigations into the alleged infant deaths are still ongoing.
The shocking discovery was exposed by Governor Sonko who had made an impromptu visit at the hospital.
The governor has since suspended the hospital's senior officials.
Several city politicians among them Kibera MP Ken Okoth and Senator Johnson Sakaja have called for a thorough probe into the shocking incident.
