At Mosobeti in Kitutu Masaba, three cows were reported dead even as several motorists spent their time searching for cars and motorbikes that had reportedly been swept by the rains.

Mr Vincent Ondimu, a motorbike operator in Mosobeti, said around five bikes were missing and two vehicles had been carried away by flash floods only to be abandoned several meters away.

"We have not seen this before. I haven't seen my bike and I have seen several vehicles missing. It's tragic. We have lost many things and there is no aid so far," he said.

Nyamira Sergeant-at-arms Bosire Angwenyi, who operates business in the region, said a private school had it's roof destroyed and many houses in the region.

He said despite the tragedy, County Disaster Management team had not responded, several hours later, adding that only well wishers were hosting affected families.

"A private school adjacent to my house has been affected and I think children may not find a place to study on Monday. Several houses have been destroyed as well, nobody is responding."

Riamoni Chief Francis Rasugu confirmed the disaster but said the government was doing all it could to restore order and normalcy in affected regions.
