Nickson Onywanda, the late Mary Auma Oliech’s eldest son has spoken out on the controversy surrounding the burial of his mother. Speaking on Wednesday, August 8, Onywanda said that the family has finally come to the final decision concerning the burial of their mother.
Mama Oliech will be laid to rest on Saturday August 11. There were two obituaries published in the Daily Nation that contradicted each other.
“Yes it is true there were differences in burial dates, but it all comes to one thing that she is our mother. One group wanted one date for their own reasons the other date also for different reasons. There was no unanimous decision on when to lay to rest our mother.” He said.
“So, one group placed an advert on the paper and the other followed suit. I cannot stop anyone from doing it. I understand why there is confusion but we as the family sat down with the elders and iron out issues. They stated that the decision will be ultimately made by the eldest son, which is me. I chose 11th where the majority had decided,” concluded Onywanda.
On Thursday August 9, Mama Oliech’s body will be ferried from Umash Funeral Home to her home in Seme, Kisumu County.
