The name ‘Harambee’ was first introduced by former President Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Odinga, which was used as a rallying call to work together and help push development levels.
It was meant to help Kenyans work together in improving infrastructure more specifically the building of schools, health facilities and to some extent Churches.
It had its golden era and there are many public schools and hospitals that were built by Kenyans pooling their resources and donating towards a good end.
The name for the national team is said to have been picked by the then Football Federation of Kenya chairman Kenneth Matiba, and has since been used.
The national team has not always performed well at major tournaments, with many saying there is a curse attached to the name, which has become so popular.
There are those who argue that the name was coined from the Hindi words Hare Ambe, which is related to worshiping and praying to a Hindu god.
Whatever the case, it seems the name will always be here with us and will take monumental efforts to have it changed.
