Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka has sensationally claimed that he joined Deputy President William Ruto's camp specifically to spy on him under instructions from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
At Manga Isecha on Friday, the third term Ford Kenya legislator, claimed that he had spent some time in Tangatanga team collecting intelligence on their operations.
"Let him stop stealing. Let him come open and tell us where he gets such money. The other day, he didn't know that I was sent by you Prime Minister to spy on him. I did my work though," said Onyonka amid laughter.
At a past function in Kapsabet Boys, Onyonka told Ruto that he will be able to galvanise support for him across Nyamira and Kisii Counties. He promised to ensure Raila loses.
But at Manga, Onyonka warned Ruto against what he called 'unnecessary abuses' targeting Mr Odinga, who he described as a true patriot.
“Raila si rika lako, unamtusi kila asubuhi na jioni, twambie pesa ya dam mnapeleka wapi… (Raila is not your age mate that you keep abusing each morning and evening. Tell us where you took the money meant for dams) …” said Mr Onyonka.
Mr Onyonka served first as PDP legislator in 2007 before joining ODM in 2013. He decamped ODM to Ford Kenya in 2017. Despite ODM fielding candidate during the polls, Mr Odinga still backed his bid.
His late father, Zachary Onyonka, a long time minister in both Kenyatta and Moi government, was also a close friend of the Odinga family.
