There were plans by ‘rebel’ Mt Kenya MPs to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba has said.
Speaking during a church function in Kikuyu constituency on May 5, the MP said the President was at the brink of being embarrassed which pushed him to the handshake.
The vocal MP claimed Mt Kenya MPs in the Tangatanga team had cornered the President were it not for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila.
“Were it not for the handshake between Raila and Uhuru, Uhuru would have been impeached by Central Kenya MPs,” Wamuchomba said.
In a thinly-veiled attack on members of parliament backing deputy president William Ruto, the MP accused the politicians of betraying the President ‘after being given handouts every weekend’.
“Nyinyi MPs wa central Kenya mnasaliti Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta … mnapewa pesa every weekend Shilingi 20,000 ili mkasaliti serikali ya Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, shame on you! (Central Kenya MPs have betrayed President Uhuru Muigai, you receive Sh20, 000 every weekend to go shame the President),” Wamuchomba said.
The Kiambu Woman Rep was accompanied by MPs allied to the Kieleweke political outfit which is seen to oppose Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid led by Maina Kamanda.
DP Ruto was also under fire from the MPs for allegedly backing Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's dubious budget.
