Political analyst Ambrose Weda now claims that the increasing trips by leading political figures to retired President Daniel Moi's home in Kabarak are a sign of desperation.

Moi has hosted a number of high ranking politicians this year, the first one being opposition leader Raila Odinga, then his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and recently Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

And though all leaders have claimed that their meeting with Moi was based on national unity, Weda is of the opinion that they have everything to do with the approaching 2022 presidential race.

With all the leaders expected to vie for the top seat in 2022, Weda claims that the move is out of desperation as they seek to secure Moi's backing which could earn them the support of the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta who appears very close to Moi.

'' It's out of desperation, Moi is not a factor in the 2022 but they hope to convince him to earn them Uhuru's support now that he (Uhuru) is approaching his retirement,'' he said on KBC English Service's 'The Big Conversation' on Wednesday morning.

The other reason, he said, is to exploit the ageing head of state in an attempt to secure some financial gain from him which could go a long way in boosting their campaigns.

Weda added that the team is as well seeking to use Moi's name to influence the masses during the election.

''They know that Moi is a generous man with deep pockets, this could be another reason,'' Weda who doubles up as an advocate of the High Court said.

However, a similar attempt by Deputy President William Ruto in May was futile after he was kept waiting for hours and later turned back.
