President Uhuru Kenyatta may have developed a cold relationship towards the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati following the leaked memos targeting CEO Ezra Chiloba, claims Simba Arati.
In an explosive memo that was followed yet by another one, Chebukati pointed out several issues that he felt the secretariat failed to address, leading to nullification of Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
And the Dagoretti North MP says uhuru’s decision to push for key electoral reforms targets the chairman by reducing his powers.
“He is uncomfortable because Chebukati leaked explosive memos that pointed the commission’s shortcomings. Remember elections were rigged in Uhuru’s favour,” he says.
“He now wants the Vice Chair and the commissioners with more powers so that to tame Chebukati. This is witch hunt that will be resisted.”
However, in his campaigns, Uhuru has insisted that he is only interested in fixing areas that the Supreme Court pointed out during the landmark ruling.
And Chebukati has already warned that should the laws be affected, they may affect delivery of credible polls in October.
