Central Bank of Kenya on Wednesday announced decision to set latest collection centre in Kisii, a move that would boost businesses in South Nyanza.
The federal bank, in collaboration with Barclays Bank, announced the move after meeting and holding talks with Kisii Governor James Ongwaem
The bank's Project Manager Ann Omufuria said local banks can now collect money from Kisii town instead of making 200 kilometers trip to Kisumu.
"This is a great relief to banks not only in Kisii but also the surrounding counties. Their officials will not travel to Kisumu anymore for money collection," she said.
Omufuria added that the refurbishment of the Kisii Barclays Bank is on course, and that CBK will br operational by January next year.
On his part, Kisii Governor James Ongwae said the move will boost the economy of the region given that over 20 banks are operational.
"Kisii has more than 20 banks and Saccos. This is a great boost to our economy as as a county. We thank Central Bank for choosing to have a centre in Kisii," he noted.
"I am happy to announce that the request I made to the CBK and President Uhuru Kenyatta to have a fully fledged CBK branch in Kisii is now taking shape," he added.
