Parents at Tuiyo primary school in Kapseret constituency of Uasin Gishu County are up in arms over what they claim part of the school land has been grabbed by a local church. The parents who spoke to the press in Eldoret on Wednesday now want the Ministry of Education and that of Lands to wade into the matter and ensure the church surrenders back the land to the school.
Led by Isaac Kipchirchir and Joel Chumba, the parents claimed the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) had irregularly registered the school land under its name.
This, according to the parents means the public school has no land.
“I was among those who were involved in the purchase of this land for the school in 1971 and when we were filing forms for the title deed application, we clearly wrote Tuiyo primary school and it was approved so. However we don’t know what happened in between Eldoret town and our school as when the title deed came it had been written Church Commissioners of Kenya,” said Chumba.
“We want that land handed back to the school immediately and the title deed clearly written Tuiyo primary school. This school was not bought by the church,” added Kipchirchir.
The parents now want the Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed and her Lands counterpart Farida Karoney to take up the matter and ensure the row is solved as soon as possible.
