The match, which was played at the Kasarani Stadium almost assured Gor of their qualification to the knock out stages of the CAF Confederations tournament.

This was a perfect preparation ahead of their Mashemeji Derby, which will be staged on Sunday.

Jaques Tuyisenge opened the scoring before Ephrem Guikan scored twice and an own goal from the Tanzanian side ensured Gor shone in a night when they needed a result.

This was the first win for Gor Mahia in this year’s Confederations Cup after drawing in their opening two matches against Rayon of Rwanda and Algiers from Algeria.

Yanga are currently bottom of their group with a single point after 3 matches, which they picked after a draw with Rwanda’s Rayon Sport. They lost their opening match 4-0 against USM Alger of Algeria.

Gor have 5 points now after Wednesday’s win and will wait on the result between Alger and Rayon to know if they will top the group. The Algerian side has 4 points from their first 2 matches.
