A Nakuru-based journalist escaped death by a whisker after a stray bullet hit him on the head.
Kevin Njenga, a photojournalist, said he was outside his house in Gilgil when a stray bullet from a military training camp hit him.
Njenga was rushed to a local health centre before being rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital where he is now admitted awaiting surgery to remove the bullet.
‘‘I thank God l escaped death narrowly. But l am still suffering because the bullet is still in my body,” the photojournalist told the Daily Nation.
He said Gilgil residents are living in fear over the stray bullets that risk their lives.
Another resident said the military training should be relocated to avoid a calamity.
“This thing should be taken to the bush where there are no people to avoid a disaster. The government must value human life and do that urgently,” John Kariuki said.
Military bases usually have routine drills where bullets are shot in the air as they engage ‘the enemy’.
Doctors at the hospital said the journalist was lucky as the bullet is not lodged on the brain which would have put his life in a big risk.
