ODM leader Raila Odinga will return to his Nyamira stronghold in January 23rd where he's expected to host his political nemesis cum friend, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During December's Kisumu trip, Raila preempted about the trip, adding that it was part of numerous outings planned to foster unity across the country.
"The country must remain united. We can't do things in the same way all the time. We shall start with Nyamira and Kisii next year in our country wide trips," he said.
It will be president Uhuru's second trip to Nyanza since his re-election but will only focus Kisii and Nyamira Counties, which constitutes over 1 million voters.
North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, on a telephone interview, said preparations for the trip were almost complete, adding that the tour will focus on development.
"We are hosting the President and Raila Odinga on January 23 and 24. They will traverse both Kisii and Nyamira Counties. It's part of the handshake trip.
"However, as leaders we are expecting more development because that's what our people need. The two leaders will also engage us on key developmental issues that are expected to be launched soon," he said.
A fortnight ago, Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii), met Raila and Uhuru in Kisumu where details of the trip were shared.
Mr Odinga, who enjoys massive support from the region, reconciled with the president almost a year ago contrary to expectations of many Kenyans.
