President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined other leaders in mourning the death of Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyongo’s mother, Mama Dorcas Owino Nyongo.
In his message of condolences, Uhuru described Mama Dorcas as a matriarch and pillar of strength in her family.
The head of state said Mama Owino, who died at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, on Tuesday, deserves a befitting send off because of the role she played in shaping the people in her life including the county boss.
Uhuru also promised to support the family of the county boss following the demise.
“President Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family and friends of Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong'o following the death of his mother, Mama Dorcas Owino. The President described Mama Dorcas as a matriarch who devoted her time in serving her family and country," State House tweeted.
Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto have also sent their messages of condolence to the family following the news of the death.
A statement from Nyongo's communication team indicated that she died at 1.55 pm at the age of 98. Burial arrangements are underway, although details remain scanty.
