Tiaty MP William Kamket has hinted a plot to change the constitution to give President Uhuru Kenyatta powers to sack his deputy William Ruto.
Under the current constitution, a sitting president cannot fire his or her deputy. The same applies to governors. In case of a fallout, a deputy cannot be dismissed by the boss.
On Sunday at Nyandarua, Dr Ruto had warned his critics, insisting that presidency is one institutions, adding that he should be respected just like the president.
“When Uhuru is not around, I am the one driving the government not the other fellows. People should know that and respect the presidency,” defiant Ruto said as quoted by the Standard.
But Mr Kamket, a close ally of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, told Ruto to stop misleading Kenyans and bragging that he was in charge of the government yet everyone knows who their leader is.
"We will not allow thieves to ascend to power. You can see them yap all over the country that they are in charge when we know the Head of State is President Uhuru,” Kamket added.
He said in future, Kenyans will change the clause to give the president more powers. He was speaking at Kandara in Murang'a County on Sunday.
"We have one government and it's headed by the President, don't tell us about the Deputy. Uhuru Kenyatta is in charge of us and you should know that. We shall soon have a referendum.
"One of the mistakes of this constitution, was to have a president with a running mate who cannot be sacked. We are going to change that clause. The president must now have powers to sack him so that when you defy orders, you'll be kicked out," he said.
