Donny Opar, the Homa Bay Roads and Transport minister died as a result of excessive internal bleeding caused by a single gunshot, autopsy report has revealed.
Family doctor Margaret Oduor and government pathologist Dr Dominic said the bullet that was fired by his assailants left through the back left of his chest.
“We did the post mortem jointly and we have established that there was a single gunshot wound that led to a lot of internal bleeding and death,” said Oduor as quoted by the Standard.
Mr Opar was shot dead on Friday night at a petrol station in Kendu Bay. His assailants left with unknown amount of money, a laptop and a phone.
He was to assume his duties as Roads and Transport minister on Monday (today), two months after the County Assembly approved his name after being fronted by Governor Cyprian Awiti.
On Saturday, Governor Awiti, who is undergoing eye treatment in Germany, condemned the death and asked police to investigate and arrest his killers.
"I strongly condemn this act of cowardice and wish to request the people of Homa Bay to keep calm while the security agencies investigate this matter with speed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dony. May God Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace," he wrote on Facebook.
Until now, police are yet to establish the motive of his killing. The autopsy was carried out at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu in the presence of his family.
