The new Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna made his inaugural address to the media Thursday after taking the reins of power from Eric Kiraithe. In his speech, the former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) spokesperson was particular about how he would like to be referred to.He asked media practitioners to refer to him as Colonel Retired because the military is very particular about ranks."For the record and the interest of accuracy, I believe I should point out that I am now retired from the military, meaning as referred to me, you will need to refer to me as Colonel Retired Cyrus Oguna, the Government Spokesman. This is because the military is very particular about how ranks are used, " he stated.Oguna brings to his new role a wealth of experience and a keen awareness of communications tailored for public consumption. He is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi Sociology Department. He will be remembered for his blow-by-blow account of the exploits of KDF in war-torn Somalia in an operation aimed at tackling the threats posed by Al-Shabaab militants. He takes over office at a time when the public's concern about rampant corruption continues to grow.
