The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development silently landed in Kisumu on Friday, beating his supporters who are known to swarm anywhere he goes.

At the Kisumu International Airport, he was received by area Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli, Kisumu County Assembly Leader Kenneth Onyango, reports the Standard.

Also present were a number of Members of County Assembly, his sister Ruth Odinga and traditional Nyatiti dancers, leaving out his supporters who were clearly not in the know.

Odinga's arrival comes ahead of a scheduled tour of the region by President Uhuru Kenyatta next week.

It is apparent that Raila went ahead of time to prepare the way for the Head of State's visit.

On December 13, Uhuru is expected to launch the Universal Healthcare Campaign in the county, this being his first tour of the region since his truce with Raila on March 9.

Reports indicate that Odinga met top area leaders at his home in Riat, Kisumu, before proceeding to Bondo for other meetings, while the media remained locked out of all the deliberations.

He is also expected to use his presence in the region to receive his Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Jaramogi Oginga University of Science and Technology.

The institution is named and erected in honor of his late father and founding Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
