Families of the Ethiopian Airlines crash victims are set to receive Sh15 million compensation each from Boeing Company.
According to Boeing, the family members of those who perished in the crash that occurred in March, this year are required to submit their claims before December 31, 2019.
“Families will not be required to sign away their rights to sue in order to claim compensation from Boeing’s fund,” Boeing said as quoted by CBS News.
The company has set aside over Sh5 billion to compensate family members who lost their loved ones during the October 2018 crash in Indonesian and the March, 2019 crash in Ethiopia.
According to Kenneth Feinberg, one of the administrators of the fund, it will be hard to locate families of the victims in the 35 countries.
“Finding all of these heirs and making sure the funds will be safe and secure will be a real challenge,” he said as quoted by Reuters.
On Monday, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg send his condolences to families who lost their relatives in the two crashes.
A few weeks ago, the International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as Interpol, said that the remains of the victims were successfully identified.
“In the wake of such a tragedy, the accurate identification of the victims is of immense importance to the families who are suffering from their loss,” Interpol’s Secretary General Jürgen Stock said.
