As more and more people graduate, the job market is achieving Karl Max’s surplus labour position.
Institutions of higher learning are churning out graduates year in year out yet Kenya has failed to become and industrialised economy hence low job offers.
As such, there is a need for all those freshmen joining the university in 2019 to know some of the marketable courses that will give you a soft landing once you are done with campus life.
First, this article discourages freshmen from using such criteria like passion and so on because University of Nairobi lecturer Dr XN Iraki says a good degree nourishes your pockets and not your emotions.
Here are three courses to study at campus
1. Engineering
Speaking to career point, Dr Iraki said Engineering is one of the best degrees anyone can pursue at campus.
“Engineering courses take more years than Sociology and not everyone goes for it so there will always be a shortage. A good degree will lead you to a profession where licensing is required,” he said.
2. Medicine
This is another of the marketable degrees in Kenya. When you finish, you are sure of a job offer.
It, however, takes time and energy to pursue it. Unlike the humanities which come as lofty, Dr Duncan Omanga of Moi University says they are lollipop degrees; Medicine will crack your head. It will also take longer.
3.Law
If you have the brains, pursue a law program. One thing you have noted with these programs, you need licensing to practice.
Pursue a degree in law and then head to Kenya School of Law to ensure you will be admitted to the bar.
