Business people and hoteliers are expecting to make a killing as the Annual Senate Legislative Summit officially kicks off in Kisumu County.
Hotels are already recording an increase in the number of bookings following the arrival of 4,000 guests in the city.
The transport sector and other businesspeople are expecting better days ahead with the guest number expected to hit 6,000 in the coming days.
The same was confirmed by Western Kenya Hospitality Leaders Association Chair Robinson Anyal who called for calm, saying that the county can house the entire delegation.
"We are estimating the bed capacities to be at around 6,000. Most of the top hotels have already been booked but guests have also reserved a number of rooms in various hotels,” he told the Standard.
On his part, Kisumu Economic Planning CeC Richard Ongendo said that the summit will be a great step in boosting the county's economy.
“There will be more than a thousand delegates in Kisumu and we should make the best out of this,” he noted.
John Ochieng who is a taxi driver noted that business has been booming for three days running.
“The summit is a blessing to us. Although the number of people who have been seeking taxi services has significantly improved since the beginning of the year, the last three days have been great,” he noted.
The county's economy has been making steady strides following the political calm currently being experienced between opposition boss Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The two made a joint tour of the county last year, a move which made it a preferred tourist destination and an investment hub.
