Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is serving his second and final term in office.
In the recent months, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party governor has continued to remain silent even as the 2022 succession takes shape.
The governor's silence especially on political events unfolding in the country raises concerns on what exactly he could be planning after his term comes to an end in 2022.
Governor Kingi has been quoted saying that Coast must form a political party to champion the region's political interests in 2022.
Kingi has also been quoted supporting calls for Coast region to secede on grounds that the region has been negelcted.
As governor Kingi serves his final term his political future remains uncertain.
Here is Kingi's likely political options after his term ends in 2022.
1. Presidential bid- 2022
According to Kiambu based political analyst Peter Ngure, Kingi is likely to push on with his interest in the 2022 presidential election.
"I don't think he (Kingi) is ready to call it quits and is likely to find ways of hanging on politics after 2022," he said in an interview on Friday.
2. Presidential running mate -2022
The analyst also observed that Governor Kingi is among politicians who are potential presidential running mates in 2022.
He noted that Kingi could be picked as a presidential running mate on grounds of his political experience.
3. Retirement
Governor Kingi can also opt to quit politics and focus on other issues but this is unlikely to be the scenario.
The Kilifi governor is yet to hint on his possible successor but there is speculation he could endorse Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa as his successor in 2022.
Jumwa was recently expelled from Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party for allegedly working with Deputy President William Ruto.
