An 80-year-old granny was on Saturday murdered by unknown assailants in Sofia village, Yatta sub-county, Machakos County.
In a phone interview, Yatta sub-county police commander Joseph Njoroge confirmed the incident, adding that the assailants also set ablaze the granny's house before fleeing.
He observed that the incident may have arose due to a land tussle, adding that the deceased was stabbed severally.
"We got a report from members of the public that a house was on fire, and when police went to the scene, they found the owner dead with a knife stuck in her body.
"Police were able to put out the fierce fire with the help of the members of the public," he said.
According to Njoroge, police recovered the murder weapon for forensic test, adding that no arrests have been made yet.
He said investigations have commenced, and the police will leave no stone unturned until the mystery surrounding the incident is unraveled.
"Investigations on the incident have began to ensure the perpetrators of this crime don't go free," he said.
The body was picked and moved to Matuu funeral home.
