Although the head of the state seems to be downplaying the next general election, it is evident that he has withdrawn his support for Deputy President William Ruto.

On Friday night during the President's round table discussion with journalists from various media stations, President Uhuru made it clear that the 2022 Presidential race was not on his priority list. He almost got angry when one of the journalists insisted to know who he will be supporting.

Citizen TV's Hussein Mohamed nonetheless managed to ask him whether he supported DP William Ruto's ongoing campaign.

"Such people are the ones I'm talking about. Instead of coming together to build the country, they are busy going around campaigning. Just know that whoever is campaigning right now is doing so on his own," the President replied.

This is contrary to his sentiments during his first term and even while campaigning for a second term where he promised Kenyans and especially the Kalenjins, that Ruto will also rule for 10 years. The two seem to have broken up as they no longer attend functions together as opposed to the old days where they would even dress alike.

With the current political status quo in the country including Uhuru's union with Raila Odinga, the Kalenjins chances of having one of their own in the state house have reduced.

Will Ruto emerge President come 2022 without Uhuru's support? Only time will tell.
