Days before the marking of 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations kicked off, a candidate at Elimu Bora Secondary School in Mandera hit the headlines after he allegedly threatened to assassinate President Kenyatta and the Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.
The student who was identified by Somali RTN TV as Ahmed Ali had written in his English paper that he would kill Uhuru and Duale.
After the 2018 KCSE results were officially released, this writer sought to ascertain what the Elimu Bora student scored after being held behind the bars for a couple of days before he was released unconditionally with no charges preferred against him.
It can now be revealed that Ahmed Ali scored a mean aggregate of D+(plus) with a grade of D (plain) in English, the subject that almost landed him in trouble.
This emerges even as students from the North Eastern region cry foul over withheld results.
However, Ahmed's was a special case because he was never involved in any examination malpractice.
His arrest in early November sparked sharp criticism from human rights activists on the events that led to his being held in police cells.
Lawyers including Ahmednasir Abdullahi called for his unconditional release.
