In the current music scene, most contemporary Kalenjin musicians prefer a beat that was popularized by Chelele. It is the same style that his son, 2nd Junior has chosen to carry the musical mantle left by his father.

However, Kotestes’ music incorporated the guitar; coming with a distinct style is yet to be replicated by most artists. On top of that, he had a voice that would charm snakes out of the holes.

Among his greatest hits included Yori Yori, Twolyot, Kiptogostayat, and Chemnandit. Junior Kotestes’ had a way with words, playing around sensitive subjects with such finesse as can only be from a talented man.

Indeed, his son’s decision to join the music industry to carry on the legacy of his departed father is laudable. It is sad that he cannot carry on the same beat as his father did during his time.

The Kalenjin nation will never have a talented artiste as Junior Kotestes, who at the time of his death was the chairman of Kalenjin Musicians Association.
