A section of leaders from the county has however welcomed DP Ruto to visit the county as a move of unity.

The county is an opposition stronghold and is the backyard of National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

Ruto is expected to preside over a funds drive at a Catholic church in Kisumu town this weekend.

Citizen Convention Party (CCP) leader Grace Akumu and the Luo Council of Elders affirmed all was set for DP Ruto’s visit assuring that he would receive a warm reception.

Akumu said the DP should visit the region to ensure there is peace and to help fast-track growth in the Nyanza region.

She said that as leaders, they should visit different regions to preach peace adding that Kenyans should learn to tolerate and forgive each other for the country to grow and to improve the economy.

“We want to tell the Deputy President, in the spirit of national unity, reconciliation and harmony, that he is welcome to visit this region for a development cause. Even if in the past we differed, it is important for us to reconcile our difference and show respect,” said Akumu as quoted by the Standard.

The elders led by Thomas Achando said the move to invite DP Ruto in Kisumu demonstrates the Christian values and leadership ethics that we can move past our differences.

“Let us reconcile our differences for the greater good of society. We need to embrace all and forgive for us to build and move forward,” said Mr Achando.
