Kenyans are mourning the death of a fast-rising comedian John Simiyu, famously known as John Gift, who was also a fourth-year student at the University of Eldoret (UOE).
Simiyu died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment after being involved in a road accident.
Netizens took to social media to condole Simiyu's family while celebrating the good work that the education student specialising in Chemistry and Mathematics had accomplished in comedy.
The Senator of Bungoma County Moses Wetangula joined netizens on Twitter in mourning the young talented comedian.
“I am shocked to learn of the death of John Gift, the amiable and talented comedian from Bungoma County. It's a great and promising future curtailed at sunrise. As one of his fans, I will miss him immensely. RIP," he tweeted.
Mwangi Njuru who is the president of the University of Eldoret Students Organization took to Facebook to pass his condolences.
“UOE IS MOURNING. Let's pray for the family and close friends. May the Almighty God give them the much-needed comfort during this time and moments. May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace,” the student leader stated in his post on Facebook.
The young comedian who performs his art in vernacular had worked with established comedians like Mulamwa.
