Area County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgallo said land issues are serious in Machakos County especially in Mavoko Sub County.

“Let’s respect ourselves and legitimate landowners holding title deeds to their respective property in the county. Leaders from Machakos, let’s work together to solve land issues without violence,” Galgallo said.

Galgallo spoke during the Mashujaa Day celebration at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town on Saturday.

He said the county is cosmopolitan hence the need to embrace people from other communities and all walks of lives.

“Let’s respect people’s rights, embrace others from outside the community. Machakos County cannot develop when there are no investors from outside the county,” Galgallo added.

Galgallo made the sentiments only a day after the Parliamentary Lands Committee visited the county on a fact-finding mission over the controversial International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) land at Kapiti plains in Machakos County on Friday.

The Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai-led committee had a meeting with the county’s security team headed by Galgallo at the Athi River deputy county commissioner David Juma’s office in Athi River town before they met the locals on the land.

Apart from the land under ILRI’s possession, there have been lots of conflicts and violence on several parcels of land across the Machakos County including the East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC), Numerical Machining Complex, Sheep and Goat, Ngelani Ranching, Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) and Dramvelle land all in Mavoko Sub County.

Land ownership raw has led to violence on these parcels of land among others.Lives have been lost, property destroyed and several other Kenyans maimed as a result of the land violence.
