Kibra MP Ken Okoth's proposed bill to legalise marijuana has garnered momentum as tea farmers backed the idea.
Mr. Okoth, the second term ODM legislator, said he will be sponsoring the bill to legalise the crop that is widely illegal for growth and consumption.
And a group of farmers from Gesima led by Timothy Omariba now wants tie bill to pass to allow them transition from tea farming to bhang business.
"Tea business has lost value in Gusii region and the bill by the MP is quite welcome.
"We shall uproot our tea for bhang. This is the only business that will give people hope with this deteriorating economy. We hope parliament will expedite the bill," he said.
Next month, Canada will join few countries that have legalized using of Cannabis sativa for recreational activities.
Mr. Okoth becomes the second legislator to come with such a bill, two years after former Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mong'are's attempts flopped.
