Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is among several leaders who are displeased by retired US President Barack Obama.
Wetangula criticized Obama for failing to bring what he termed as meaning economic development in the country of his father’s birth.
The FORD Kenya Party leader while speaking to journalists claimed that Obama did little for Kenyans while he was the US President.
Senator Wetangula called on Obama to encourage the US government to engage Kenya in areas of development.
“We want to say that Obama’s continued engagement with Kenya is something that we cherish and appreciate because it gives the country the necessary positive visibility, but we also wish he did much more for Kenya when he was president of the most powerful country and he did not.” he said.
“We hope that all is not lost and that you will continue to encourage your compatriots and your government to engage Kenya in every aspect of development particular in areas of tourism and trade,” he added.
Here are some reactions from Garissa residents following Wetangula’s statement:
“What has Wetangula done for this country for him to start demanding anything from Obama? Our leaders are busy stealing and looting everything,” said Fazul Yusuf.
“Obama was the President of America and not Kenya. We have our own leaders who do nothing for this country but steal money from poor Kenyans,” said Osman Khalif.
“I think Obama should have done more for this country while he was the US President. In terms of development and job creation for our youth,” Mohamed Aden said.
“Kenyans love handouts. Him as a leader, what has he done for Kenya or his county. Its time our leaders should ask, what can I do for my country,” said Ifrah Abdi.
