Raila has even been quoted saying that he is the one who made Duale the person he is today politically.

The former Prime Minister has often argued that Duale won the Dujis parliamentary seat in 2007 because of his (Raila) political influence.

Duale marketed Raila’s politics in Northern Kenya in the 2007 disputed presidential election.

After the disputed 2007 presidential election that led to post-election violence, Duale was appointed Livestock Assistant Minister in the coalition government under former President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga.

Duale served in the position to 2009 and soon after fell out with Raila Odinga’s Orange party.

The MP fell out with Raila after the sacking of the then Eldoret North MP William Ruto (now deputy president) over the alleged maize scandal.

The Garissa MP saw Ruto’s sacking as unfair claiming at the Orange party was out to punish him.

As DP’s close ally and friend, Duale closed ranks with Raila.

The situation became worse in 2010 when the Deputy President's name was among the six suspects who were handed to the International Criminal court (ICC) to face charges of crimes against humanity.

In the build-up to the 2013 polls, Duale was among top politicians who sided with DP Ruto to form the United Republic Party (URP).

In the 2013 general election, Duale won Garissa Township Parliamentary seat on URP ticket as DP Ruto and President Kenyatta won the presidential election.

In 2017, Duale retained his seat under Jubilee Party ticket.

He is also the National Assembly leader of the majority.

Political pundit Peter Ngure argues that Duale now holds DP Ruto’s key to 2022 presidential bid.

Duale has been described as the man who will determine whether DP Ruto wins in 2022.

The Garissa Township MP has in fact been quoted asking Raila to endorse DP Ruto’s bid in 2022.
