“Heartbreaking to hear of the crash of the Nairobi bound Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 just after takeoff from Addis. My prayers to the families and friends of our brothers and sisters who lost their loved ones in the crash,” Mutua tweeted on Sunday.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane crashed six minutes after taking off from the Bole International Airport en-route to Nairobi.

A statement by the Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday revealed that 149 passengers and 8 crew who were aboard the flight died.

The statement further revealed that 32 Kenyans perished in the horror crash.

On Monday, the China Aviation Authorities ordered local airlines to ground their Boeing MAX 8 planes.

The Kenyan government has since dispatched a team to Ethiopia to coordinate and gather details of the crash.

The team is led by Transport Principal Secretary (PS) Esther Koimmet.
