Police officers who narrowly escaped death after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Garissa got a surprise visit on Tuesday from Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

Boinnet visited the four officers who are recuperating at the Nairobi West Hospital after they sustained various injuries during the attack.

According to the IG, the officers were on a routine patrol when their vehicle hit the improvised device suspected to have been planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

“I have visited Police Officers recuperating at the Nairobi West Hospital after sustaining various injuries while in the line of duty. Four of the officers I visited were injured in an IED attack in Garissa, while on routine patrol,” he said.

IG Boinnet further said that officers injured while on duty while be receiving the required medical attention.

“The National Police Service cares for all its officers and we strive to ensure that officers injured while on duty receive the required medical attention,” said Boinnet on Twitter.
