In his speech, Ruto made it clear that it's time for development and not politics.

He said that he is an expert in politics and when the time is ripe he will transverse the country and campaign.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana who was present described Ruto as a kingmaker who has helped leader ascend in power.

He, however, asked him not to expect any support from Makueni since the Wiper party will be fielding a candidate, Kalonzo Musyoka to vie for the tops seat.

"As you prepare for 2022 also know Wiper will be in the race too," said Kibwana.

Makueni legislator Daniel Maanzo told Ruto that in politics there shouldn't be hard feelings in case of loss.

"Welcome to Makueni, we wish you well in your 2022 bid and the participants should be ready to accept the will of the people," said Maanzo.

This reception was a bit harsh unlike in Machakos where six lawmakers backed the Deputy President in his presidential bid.

Ruto had visited Makueni to launch the National Youths Week.

Other attendants in the function included Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Margaret Kobia (Cs Youth and Gender affairs) among other elected leaders from Makueni.
