There was drama on Wednesday at Chirichiro sub location in Kisii County after angry villagers bashed a witch doctor accusing him of killing innocent locals.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief Haron Mosomi said villagers accused the suspect Martin Nyamoko for killing his neighbour's son Lawrence Onwong'a.
"Villagers stormed Nyamoko's homestead and bashed him before Nyumba Kumi officials rescued him. He could have been lynched were it not for the Nyumba Kumi officials," said the chief.
The local administrator said the villagers proceeded to clear overgrown grass at the suspect's homestead claiming the snakes he has been sending people are hiding in the grass.
"Nyamoko's compound was cleared by locals who said the homestead is bushy thus giving him room to continue killing innocent people," said Mosomi.
He called on residents not to take the law into their hands saying the law doesn't allow someone to be killed.
"We are all living by the grace of God. No one is authorized to kill one another. Crime suspects should be surrendered to authorities," he said.
The chief said the witch doctor pleaded for forgiveness after he was rescued and promised to stop carrying out the witch doctor activities.
