In an interview on Wednesday, Yatani, also the Labour CS, said that he is aware that some people are not happy with the policies he has put in place since his ascent to the seat.

According to Yatani, county governors, some of whom he served with, are not happy with his stand that they must pay pending bills owed to contractors and suppliers.

"Of course not everybody is happy, I know quite a number of friends we work with or we had worked with as a governor they are not happy," he said in the interview with Citizen TV.

In November, the former Marsabit governor blacklisted 17 counties over pending bills. The counties were not to receive allocations from the Treasury until the bills are paid, resulting in criticisms from the county bosses.

However, Yatani says that anger from a section of Kenyans will not prevent him from playing his role in that capacity, saying that it's now his responsibility to introduce such measures.

He added that he is also under the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta, which leaves him without any other choice but to do what is necessary for the well being of the country.

"But do I have a choice? I have a duty to make sure that what is in the interest of the public and the assignment given to me by the president is implemented," Yatani added.
