President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour of Luo Nyanza together with his once political nemesis and opposition leader Raila Odinga has sent tongues wagging.
But as much as the visit will obviously bring with it goodies for the locals, it will as well leave some casualties, one of them being Siaya Senator James Orengo.
Speaking last week, the vocal lawmaker claimed that Uhuru's tour will also see him endorse opposition leader Raila Odinga as his preferred successor in the 2022 polls.
Should this not happen, the latter will come out as a disillusioned leader and could consequently lose the influence and trust he enjoys in the region.
Raila has steered clear of the 2022 political debate in the past although voices of concern over his anticipated presidential bid are growing louder.
The second casualty of Uhuru's Luo Nyanza tour will be corrupt officials working for counties within this geography.
Basing on Uhuru's reignited war on graft, corrupt Nyanza county officials and employees of state-owned corporations based in the area will be the next ones on the hook.
Raila is likely to use this tour to push for the prosecution of such individuals, considering that the crackdown on state officials has only been concentrated in Nairobi and not spread out to counties on a large scale.
It is likely that the President will address this issue, as he seeks to leave a legacy as the head of state who successfully combated the graft menace.
