Speaking on Sunday during Garissa Teachers College 20th graduation ceremony, Duale said Kenya Red Cross Secretary-General Abbas Gullet should not ask Kenyans to raise funds to help mitigate the effects of drought.

He said despite Garissa being among the counties that are affected by drought, the national government allocated enough resources to mitigate the drought.

Duale said Red Cross should first fully account for the funds that have been raised over the past years before asking Kenyans for more money.

The National Assembly Majority Leader said Gullet should be put to task over the billions raised and for failing to account for money which the government gave the organisation.

“My friend Abbas Gullet should abandon the M-Pesa pay bill for Kenyans to raise funds. In the last drought we raised billions of shillings and to date, he has not explained to Kenyans how the funds were used. Whenever Gullet sees that there is a drought in the country, he calls for a press conference in one of the big hotels in the city to give out M-Pesa bill,” said Duale as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Last week, Gullet appealed to Kenyans to help raise Sh824,554,720 to provide humanitarian assistance to more than 1.1 million people who have been affected by the ongoing drought.

Among the counties affected include Wajir, Mandera, Turkana, Baringo, Isiolo, West Pokot, Tana River, Samburu, Kilifi and Turkana.
