Mr Ali Gichunge, the father of suspected mastermind of DusitD2 terror attack that left 21 dead and several injured on Tuesday, has reportedly told the police how he was shocked to see his own son's Images circulating on social media.
Ali Salim Gichunge alias Farouk, has been linked to the deadly attack after his neighbours in Ruaka identified positively the vehicle used by assailants as his, thus giving detectives important clue.
And the KDF sergeant attached to Isiolo Baracks, says he has been in touch with his son even after separating with his wife, Salma Gichunge, who hails from Nyeri in 2010.
Further, he told investigators, Faruok was a brilliant and calm boy who aspired to be an engineer after his studies in Secondary school. However, he did not manage to get university entry grades from Isiolo Baracks High School.
And after brief stay in Isiolo, Farouk is said to have moved to his mother's home in Majengo, Nyeri before moving to Mombasa. In 2015, he lost touch with his father.
"I was shocked to see his photos. He was bright and calm. I however lost his contacts in 2015. I tried to find out his whereabouts but the mother kept me in darkness," he reportedly said.
And it's in Mombasa his father suspects that the son was radicalised where he went to train as a madrassa teacher.
"I suspect that he might have been radicalised when he moved to Mombasa. The mother denies also his whereabouts so I was in complete darkness."
Although preliminary investigations showed that Mr Farouk was among those killed by security forces inside the hotel, sources claim that he did not take part in operation and had just given out his vehicle for use.
It's believed that he's among nine people who have been arrested for interrogation along with his suspected girlfriend Violet Kemunto and his mother Salma.
