Former Nairobi County governor Evans Kidero was earlier today arrested in the capital by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths, Kenya's graft-fighting body.
Mr Kidero was swiftly driven to the commission's headquarters where he was dealt with a shocker: He will be spending the night behind bars in a police station housed in the headquarters until morning when he will be arraigned in court.
The arrest appears to have been strategically timed to happen in hours when courts are not in operation.
He is alleged to have embezzled 7.8 billion shillings during his stint as governor, allegations he has vociferously denied.
His dramatic arrest sends a powerful message to the public in a country where impunity breathes.
EACC announced a few months ago that it had opened investigations into the alleged embezzlement of public funds at City Hall by the Kidero investigation.
